Canada stops accepting applicants for special Afghan immigration program


On Youtube, CBC News: The National shows that the Canadian federal government is quietly shuttering the Special Immigration Measures program to bring over Afghans who worked with Canada during the war. It has advocates worried about the people who could be left behind, and the danger facing them.

      Facebook has removed the accounts of at least two state-owned media outlets in Afghanistan, the company confirmed Thursday, saying it was complying with laws in the United States listing the Taliban as a "terrorist organisation."

      The Taliban have made liberal use of Facebook and Twitter since seizing power in August last year, and have a firm grip on state-owned media in the country - indeed including radio and television stations, and newspapers.

      July 20, 2022 - At least 700 people killed in Afghanistan since Taliban takeover: UN report

      Hundreds of people have been killed in Afghanistan since the Taliban overran the country nearly a year ago, even though security on the whole has improved since then, the United Nations said in a report Wednesday.


      The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan also highlighted the poor situation of women and girls since the Taliban takeover and how they have been stripped of many of their human rights under Afghanistan’s current rulers.
