CBC News shows that Canada's major airlines have agreed to suspend flights to Mexico and the Caribbean as the Canadian federal government introduces new mandatory quarantine rules for passengers, such as hotel stays, as it really tries to discourage international travel.
It seems that Ottawa isn't really banning certain non-essential travel. It is really making it as inconvenient and expensive as possible. Now, in addition to existing requirements, returning travelers will need to quarantine in a hotel for 3 days at their own expense, at an estimated likely cost of at least $2,000.
Hotel quarantine measures for air travelers will come into effect Feb. 22. Travelers will have to pay for hotel stay of up to 72 hours. While in the hotel, persons will await the results of a polymerase chain reaction test, commonly known as a PCR test.
